Are You Feeling Unhappy? Here are Some Changes you Can Make to Put a Smile on Your Face!

If you had a choice between getting $1,000,000 cash in a lump sum payment versus making $50,000 doing what you love for 25 years what would you choose? Out of the two scenarios which one would make you happier? What would you do with $1,000,000?  Would you pay off your house and your student loans? Would you use the money to send your children to college? If you are considering sending your child to college, you will be down $50,000 per child or more since the college tuition rates are going up. Depending on your life and liabilities the $1,000,000 lump sum could be gone in one year…or you could still have all of it if you have no debts to pay.

Does happiness boil down to just our finances? I believe finances are just a piece of the pie. Happiness shouldn’t solely be wrapped up in our finances. If we have too much to pay for in our lives and can’t afford to do the things that we want to do, we can downsize...There’s nothing wrong with that! Don’t worry about what people are going to say. We do not have to keep up with the Jones’s. We can all achieve the life we dreamed of having. Is it hard? Heck yeah it is! Who said we wanted to have things given to us for free? I mean, some might, but if you’re anything like me, I like to work for the things I want. It means more to me that way. Sooooo, we have to work for it. There are different things that we can incorporate into our lives to have a happier life and it’s not all about finances.

  1. Let the negative emotions go- There are things you just cannot control in life. Some of us can get in our own way by trying to take on unnecessary baggage. I had to learn this the hard way, but it was a lesson well learned. One of the main reasons we aren’t happy is because we aren’t seeing any progression in our life. Other factors can affect situations in our life but we ourselves could be the cause of our unhappiness as well. We can fix it by not letting fear and doubt stop us from making progress in our lives.

  2. It's okay to say No- We have all been around our friends, family, or coworkers who LITERALLY say “yes” to everything. Sometimes they may not want to say “yes” but they are uncomfortable with saying “No” because they do not want to deal with confrontation or feeling that they have let someone down by saying “No”. Stand firm in your decision and say no if you don’t want to do something. If you’re grown, you don’t have to give an answer as to why. If you’re under 18…you may have to listen to your parents though.

  3. Spend time with GOOD friends- Yes, I put good in caps for a reason. Some people we associate ourselves with aren’t good for our happiness. These are the friends that you would mention an idea to, and they always have something negative to say. How many times have you mentioned your ideas and the “friend” drowned out your idea to talk about their misery. That is NOT a GOOD friend. You need some good friends in your life. You need some “Let's do this course together so we can both be successful friends”. That’s a good friend! If your friends aren’t talking to you that way, it’s time to reevaluate and take care of your happiness.

  4. Exercise- Exercising is a great way to motivate us and help us be in good health and shape. When we feel great and we see our results, we will want to keep breaking new milestones.

  5. Change up your diet- This one was a change I made where I saw a drastic difference. I used to feel very tired and weighed down. I didn’t really have the physical or mental energy to start my workday.  I got tired of feeling this way and I bought a juicer! I went on Pinterest and found some great juice recipes and listen… I didn’t need coffee to get me started in the mornings….. and I love me some coffee! I felt energized and I was up and ready to start my day after a nice cold morning shower.

  6. Try Yoga- Now I know this may not be popular with the men, but women join yoga classes and days later they are glowing! Especially when they combine exercise and a clean diet. A clean diet will make you feel good. Feeling good with a clear mind that yoga can help you achieve can make you happy.

  7. Spend more time with Family- We don’t have to wait until the holidays to spend time with family. Take some time and see your family. Make memories with them and create an ultimate family photo album if you haven’t already. Family can be a great way to get you back on track and give you the encouragement you need to accomplish your goals and find happiness.

  8. Stop listening to sad music- When we are having a bad day listening to Ed Sheeran or Brain McKnight may not be the best. They are both good artists but seriously, don’t do that to yourself.  Music is tied to our emotions and even has the ability to change our mood. Instead when we are having a bad day we can listen to upbeat, positive music, or even motivational speeches. You will be surprised by the impact that the speeches can have. I have been using this method since last year and it has helped me to stay focused and I feel great knowing I didn’t give in or give up. I’m sure it can help you as well.

  9. Invest in yourself- How much time are you putting into other areas of your life versus how much time are you investing in you? Investing in yourself is a great way to have a happier life. You can learn how to create passive income and be able to enjoy doing some of the things you want to do in life freely. The best part about it is you can start today and not have to wait for a new year’s resolution.

  10. Getting some rest- Are you sleep deprived or have insomnia? This is quite common in our day and time. If you feel that you are having sleep issues, seek the help of a doctor. Getting some rest can help you to relax and not feel down or distracted.

  11. Take a break from social media-All of us use social media and see some of the things that are happening in this world. After days and weeks of watching the videos and timelines of others it can have a negative impact on us, especially if there are many negative current events occurring. Take a break from social media and focus on something that can help you grow and be happier.

  12. Find your purpose- Finding your purpose is one of the best things you can do. When you know what you want to do in life, and you surround yourself with a group of people that is motivated to pursue their purpose as well, It can create more clarity in your mind and heart.

  13. Get a mentor- When we find our purpose and are looking to get on the right track it’s best for us to surround ourselves with a motivating group, but also a mentor who has been through the trenches of where we want to go. We need a mentor who can lead us and show us our flaws so we can correct them. This is a way for us to learn and ask questions about the things we are not sure about. It’s also another way to help us hold ourselves accountable.

  14. Failing does not make us a failure- This was a key thought to following my dream and being able to not let negative emotions hold me back.  Failing can be one of the best lessons in life if we understand why we failed. When we understand why we failed, we have an opportunity to fix our mistakes and get better. Some billionaires have failed time after time, but they learned from their mistakes and then got better. We can all do the same.

  15. Plan and organize- If you haven’t been planning and organizing your weeks, you’re mostly likely in a disorganized situation. Get a planner and write down all the things that you need to get done so that you can stay organized. If you are organized you will be able to function better and not be in a mentally cluttered state of reduced progress.
